Macau Part II (and a half)

16 March 2011

(This is a pretty pointless post)

So, after visiting the A-ma Temple, Macau Tower, Fisherman's Wharf and the Lou Lim Ioc Lotus Garden from the morning until around 5 pm, we went back to the hotel, rested for awhile, then my cousin and I went to the private lounge on the 17th floor for the complimentary cocktails (who doesn't love free drinks! WHO!) and food, which were only available from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Since everything was free we decided to eat as much as we could and thought of it as our dinner. Unfortunately there weren't many choices of food there, since it wasn't actually dinner and more like tea or a pre-dinner light snack.

Cute pastries and cakes :)

They were pleasing to the eye, but not for the tummy. Not saying they weren't tasty, it was just that ... we were looking for dinner. Not dinner material, haha. But to be frank they weren't particularly delicious either! Nothing special.

Lighting was great for taking photos!

View was quite awesome as well, can see mini human figures milling around the Ruins of St. Paul's if you look carefully! :D

Pretty hard to believe that it only takes around 15 minutes to walk to the ruins. Looks so very far away from the hotel!

Fizzing bubbles in a Bellini

My cousin ordered this, which I'm sure everyone (okay, maybe not, doubt that my friends know) knows is champagne and peach juice. I know because I read about it in books. Haha.

From what I've read and heard, the tinier the bubbles in a champagne, the better quality it is. Not sure though.

I was going to order the Cosmopolitan, but unfortunately it was 'out of stock'. PAH. I had the chance to order anything I want, without my parents around, without questions asked about my age, and FOR FREE, and it had to be unavailable.

So in the end I settled for a Mimosa, which is champagne and orange juice, if you don't know. Preferred the Bellini though!

We were kind of hungry so we had to look for some other things to eat. The waitress then offered to ask the cook to prepare us some 'crab'. Hahaha, my cousin didn't understand at first, and thought she was offering us seafood, which of course we didn't want, famished as we were. Turned out to be CREPE. Don't you pronounce it as 'crape' or at least 'creep'?

*shrugs* That's how I always pronounce it anyway.

I think the crepe was infused with wine of some sort, tasted so unusual.

Still our tummies weren't satisfied (we shared one crepe, didn't like it enough to order another one), so we asked the waitress if they could possibly prepare something like scrambled eggs and toast (a bit weird I know, LOL) from the breakfast menu for us. She said no. Pah.

I mean! It was just SCRAMBLED EGGS! AND TOAST! Maybe I should have asked to enter the kitchen myself and prepare my own food. Or just ask her to give us a toaster.

Okay I understand that the lounge was just a place for appetisers, to chill with friends etc, and not for 'heavy' food. But still! Haha.

Cousin and I were reduced to eating raw oysters, which neither of us had tried before. Decided to try it together, haha. Not before squeezing a whole lot of lemon onto the oysters first though.

I have always found the appearance and thought of raw oysters disgusting but turned out they weren't so bad. Not as horrid as we expected anyway! Might try it again some other time. Haha.

AND THESE!!

Aren't these the most revolting food substances you have ever seen!

The things on the left were ... asparagus and oysters, I think. And the ones on the right were steamed vegetables wrapped with a cabbage leaf and topped with a blob of something like tomato pasta sauce.

In contrast to their unappetising appearance, they actually tasted quite good. Haha. Unexpected.

Once I polished off my Mimosa I ordered another cocktail, a Tom Collins, which tasted just like soda with lime, couldn't taste alcohol at all. My cousin barely took 3 sips from her Bellini, so I finished hers as well.

That was why I felt so good and light-headed, and slightly tipsy the whole night. Haha.

Okay, vain photos that you probably want to gag and puke seeing, haha.

We walked to the Wynn Hotel, to watch the free musical fountain show. And to explore around a bit!

Quite a boring show, have seen better. But wait!

Try spotting the TINY Macau Tower at the back! Only photo we took with the tower, I just realised.

This is some kind of ... courtyard? I have no idea what it's called, in the MGM Grand Hotel. Full of flowers and their fragrance.

Beautiful hydrangeas

More exquisite, brilliantly-coloured flowers

We were tired as hell by that time, and feeling all greasy and uncomfortable. But still, had to take photos. :P

Blisters were killing my cousin's and my feet. Awful.

Over the top deco inside ... I think it was Wynn, didn't find out. All those huge tassels on the wall, and those gigantic traditional Chinese coins on the ceiling. Kind of at odds with the outward appearance of the hotel.

Casino Lisboa again, but the other side of it.

Was lucky enough to catch another musical fountain show (which I think is at 15-minute intervals), and this one was much more impressive and nice, with fire and rainbow lights. This show lasted far longer too!

We watched the show from inside a small, long park, which we got lost in. Not exactly got lost, actually, it was just that all the entrances/exits from the park were locked except the one we got in by, and we didn't know, and we thought we could cut across the park and reach the Grand Lisboa Hotel in a shorter time and through a shorter route.

Walked around almost the whole park looking for an exit and had to admit defeat (after watching the fountain show) and return to the gate we went in by. Oh, our poor feet. :(

Soaked our feet in warm water in the tub. Bliss(ter)! ARGH!

Stupid face! :P

Okay, end of post! Hahaha. I know this post has lots of little, unimportant details you probably don't want to know. :P Forgive me!

Taaa!
