Masquerade!
14 March 2009
LONG POST AHEAD!
(and random stuff about naughty little flies at the bottom)
An imaginary masquerade, that is.
Unfortunately, I live in a place where there are no such fancy events, not even prom. Okay, maybe there are, but they are just not ....
Time for a reverie! (in which I am not an Asian)
Imagine promenading down a magnificent ballroom in London or New York City, clad in a gorgeous gown, ears adorned with pearls, fingers encrusted with sparkling jewels, and clinging onto the arm of a hot (preferably not Asian) guy.
Then imagine something like that in Malaysia.
Damn. The mere thought, the mere sentence of it already sounds kind of bad. So unglamorous. I hope it is just me. Maybe I'm just being bias as I actually live here, and happen to detest it. Maybe it's because places like Manhattan are known for being fashion capitals of the world, etc, and Malaysia is just not known for things like that.
Yeeeah. Obviously I'm the kind of people who crave for lifestyles like people in Gossip Girl. Deep down, who really doesn't? Which normal person has never thought at least once, that he/she wishes to be rich? AT LEAST ONCE.
******************
Anyway, this was what I had been up to two weeks ago.
Rui Mei and I, being such good and loyal friends, helped Iris draw some banners for the 19th Ranger Unit. Yeah, it was totally none of our business, but ... that's what friends are for? Gee.
But of course, we only agreed to help her on a few conditions. Poor Iris. But like Rui Mei said, Iris is probably dead right now if we didn't help her. Hahahaa.
Actually I didn't really mind helping her, except for the fact that I had to wake up at the crack of dawn and go to school early every week. It was my first time drawing and painting a banner, and it was fun! :)
The theme had something to do with a Venetian Ball. Something of the sort.

I like this mask! I think the fuchsia sequins were a nice touch to the forest green colour of the mask.
Fuchsia and forest green ... sounds yucky, doesn't it? But it turned out pretty great ...

I like this mask too!!
I know, the colours did not blend nicely. But I have always sucked in painting, and it's not my banner anyway, so no matter!
I love the details at the sides! Pretty colours. I heart swirls and spirals!
The mask is actually incomplete. There was supposed to be something in the middle, and notice that there are only tiny white swirls edging the right side of the mask and not the left. Didn't have enough time to finish it. But it looked pretty enough!

I like this mask too. =.=
And I also know the silver sequins were terribly sewn. Haha. I must learn how to sew nicely IF I ever want to become a fashion designer. (and at the same time open another cafe or something, like Iris said)

I don't like this mask as much as the other ones!
This was painted under the swelteringly hot sun. I know it's gross, but my perspire dripped onto the banner a lot of times. Hahaha.
And the colours of this mask were totally unplanned! I simply mixed some colours and started painting. Which explains why this mask was painted with the strange combination of fiery orange, blue, green, black, brown, red, glittery gold ....

Rui Mei wrote the words (pretty!) and I drew and painted the mask (also pretty!). Haha. Vain much?

The "Artist" and the Mask
It can almost pass as a storybook title ... The Mask. The Mysterious Mask. The Magic Mask. The Mystery Mask. The Mystery of the Mask.
(No, I still want to be a fashion designer. Not an author. Especially not an author for Nancy Drew-like mystery books, although many of them are actually nice to read)

Seeee! The results of basking under the sun fully clothed. My upper thighs are so pale.
I like the skin tone around my knees! I must find time to work on my tan. Make it more even.
The only question is, how? As in, how to make it more even? I don't think it's possible unless I wait until I become pale all over first. Or cover the already tanned parts with a towel and work on the pale parts.
RANDOM, STUPID STUFF
****************************

Ooh, look, it's a furry starfish! I mean, a starflower.
It's huge! Almost like a starfish. I like starfishes. They are so cute!
That's not my hand by the way.
Anyway, while drawing the banner, I suddenly thought of Smeagol/Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Sometimes I just love him and his split personality, and sometimes I hate him because of his obsession of the ring (and he bit Frodo's finger off! Ouch!) and I remembered the song he sang when Frodo was caught in the web of the giant spider Shelob.

Got these photos from a website (forgot what). Thanks, whoever it is, because these are just the photos I was looking for.
So, I started singing the song :
"Naughty little fly,
Why does it cry?
Caught in a web,
Soon ... you will be EATEN!"
Something like that. It is so cute, and sort of ... catchy, and once you start singing it, it's hard to stop. It wasn't long before Rui Mei and Iris started singing along too.
Then we started changing the lyrics. It was so stupid and so hilarious at the same time. :P
During Chinese, our teacher drew a picture like this :

(modified version)
And he explained what it meant (I wasn't really listening), maybe something about people going from the dark side to the bright side, blah, blah. It's Chinese. Of course my attention wandered.
Anyway, the picture gave me some ... ah, inspiration. We changed the lyrics to (it's stupid) :
"Naughty little bees,
Why do they buzz?
Trapped in a bottle,
Away from the sunlight!"
=__=
*snorts*
Obviously we were bored.
And then we came up with another one :
"Naughty mosquitoes,
Why do they bite*?
They suck our blood away,
And soon we will DIE!!!"
*I know they don't bite, but honestly, I don't know what to write. Sting?
Then there's another one :
"Stupid little snail,
Why does it crawl?
Always so slow,
Just like Rui Mei."
Ingenious. Haha. NOT. Meaningful, yes. To those who know Rui Mei. Hah. She really is the slowest person on the planet. Pfft.
Okay. This post is ridiculously long. I'm gonna go ... *groans* study. Try to study.
Ta!
